In the World Not of the World & Christian Witness
On thing I know for certain, is that Christians all have different ways of thinking and thoughts about what issues are are important. Just as said in the Holy Bible, New Testament, there are many parts to one body.
Starting point #1
What is certain, also, is that there is one and only one body of Christ, of which we who call ourselves Christian are a part. And, this is where the starting point for all ministry in Jesus’ name begins. Too often we forget that we are all one and demand that all believe what we feel is correct thinking.
Yet, it is God who made each and everyone of us unique. What is essential belief for all Christians that are part of the one body? There are three, and only three essentials … (1) Salvation through Jesus Christ, (2) the Trinity : Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are one, and (3) Spiritual Baptism
One whole, many ministries.
Some fervently go forth witnessing for the Great Commandment, making disciples of all nations. Yet this, although great, is one of the ministries each Christian is called to do in Jesus’ name, when done solely to the exclusion of other ministries.
Evangelism witness, however, takes place daily when lives are lived by Christ’s new commandment, to Love as I have loved you. So, how are Christians, and why are Christians to live in the world but not be of the world?
Starting point #2
To do the work of Jesus Christ by going out into the world requires participation. We must be part of others’ lives, demonstrating by how we live and act that our Christ-centered way is a better way of life. Never doubt for a moment that you are being watched. We must be in the world, gaining knowledge and experience from everyday life, because how can we bring someone to Christ’s salvation without knowing how they initially think and act as they do?
Here is an example of what I mean.
I recently read and wrote a book review on The Christian and The Pharisee, (that can be found on this site) a dialog between a Christian evangelist and a Rabbi. What became apparent when reading this book, is that those within the Jewish belief system do not believe in original sin. What then is the importance of salvation from sin to Jews and others who don’t believe they were ever bad in the first place?
What this means for evangelizing witness.
This means that before salvation can be presented as necessary, the non-Christian must first be brought to the point of realization that their sin exists; or, the non-Christian must change words and definitions for badness, or evil, etc., and be agreeable to renaming them sin.
Here is an another example.
Christians know that certain subject matter is better left alone. After all–why tempt ourselves? What, though, about those, both Christian and non-Christian, who feel that their music, records, and other media materials are just fine? How can we as Christians discuss the contents without ever really knowing what they are? Here, above stated, is a portion of what is entailed in being within the world but not a part of it. The other part is for our edification–enlightnment within our own Christian communities for refreshment, rejuvenation, and rest.
If you think that being a Christian and not being involved in a Christian community is just fine for you, I ask that you rethink this position. We all need that time together to support each other, encourage each other, and pray with praise and thanksgiving to our Heavenly Father for the gift to us of our salvation. We need to be strengthened for service, and to stand against the evils of this world.
May you be richly blessed.
